Foreign students registered in a home University are eligible to apply to become a language assistant in France if their country has signed an agreement with France. Application procedures may be different for each country. The CIEP (Centre International d'Etudes Pédagogiques) runs the program for the french Ministry of National Education.
Language assistants work in either primary or secondary schools. They are hired for a 7-month period (from october the 1st to april 31) , except for german assistants, who are hired for 6 months starting on october the 1st. Selection committees are held in april and may, then personal files of accepted candidates are sent to each académie ( regional board of education). With this information, the académie can appoint you to a position. It is only when all the formalities have been completed that the Rectorat can send you a folder containing your arrêté d'affectation and administrative information.
